Isaac H. Pennybacker
Isaac H. Pennybacker, 92, of Sanford, North Carolina, died March 29, 2001.
He was born on June 12, 1908, in Franklin, the son of William and Eva Davis Pennybacker. The family moved to Frost when he was a young boy. He was the last surviving member of his family.
Survivors include a daughter, Brenda Hielscher, and two grandchildren, all of Michigan.
Pennybacker was preceded in death by his wife, Irene; two brothers, Lloyd and Samuel; and five sisters, Elizabeth Sharp, Mildred Baker, Pauline Pennybacker, Ann Pennybacker, and Howard Pennybacker.
Funeral services and interment were in Sanford.

Wanda Sue Kelley
Wanda Sue Kelley, age 66, of Route 2, Marlinton, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at her home on Knapps Creek.
Mrs. Kelley was a member of the Frost United Methodist Church and the Frost Volunteer Fire Department.
She was born at Slaty Fork April 3, 1935, the daughter of the late James Lou and Alma Moore Gibson.
A brother, John Gibson, is deceased.
Surviving her are her husband, Kenneth G. Kelley; two daughters, Elaine K. Faulknier and Jane K. McMullen, both of Marlinton; three brothers, Clarence Gibson, of Cleveland, Ohio, Walter Gibson, of Fayetteville, North Carolina, and Gene Gibson, of Slaty Fork; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the Frost United Methodist Church on Saturday by the Rev. Jerry Moore and the Rev. Randy White. Burial was in Mountain View Cemetery.

Virginia C. McDowell
Virginia C. McDowell, age 88, of St. Albans, died April 4, 2001, at home after a long illness.
She had lived at St. Albans since 1942 and was a member of Abney Street Church of God.
Surviving her are a daughter, Nancy Hogue, of St. Albans; son, C. D. McDowell, of Hillsboro; sister, Eva Porterfield, of Delaware; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services were held Saturday at Casdorph & Curry Funeral Home, St. Albans, by the Rev. Jack Lawrence. Committal service was that afternoon at Salem Presbyterian Church and burial was in Organ Cave Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Organ Cave.

Jeanene Marie Hefner
Jeanene Marie Hefner, age 40, of Route 1, Marlinton, died Monday, April 9, 2001, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center.
The daughter of Edward Durand and the late Catherine Windows Durand, she was born at Norfolk, Virginia, December 23, 1960.
She was a Methodist.
Surviving her are her husband, Michael J. Hefner; daughter, Catherine Louise Mae Hefner; sons, Stephen Allen Hefner and Andrew Alexander Hefner; stepchildren, Melissa Jo Hefner, Laura Mae Hefner, and Michael J. Hefner, Jr.; her father and stepmother, Darlene Durand, of Tucson, Arizona; two sisters, Debbie Cossu and Julie Durand, both of Norfolk; three brothers, Lee Durand and Eddie Durand, both of Norfolk, and Tony Durand, of Independence, Missouri; and one grandchild.
Services will be held at 1 p. m. Friday at VanReenen Funeral Home by the Revs. Paul Watkins and Stanley Clark. Her ashes will be taken to Norfolk and scattered at sea.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p. m. Thursday night.
