Goldie M. Galford Beck

Goldie M. Galford Beck, age 86, of Los Angeles, California, passed away February 21, 2002, at the Culver West nursing home, after a year's illness.
She was born August 18, 1915, at Woodrow, the daughter of the late Emmett G. and Lanie Beverage Galford. Goldie was the eldest of nine children.
She married John M. Beck, of Baltimore, Maryland, in 1946, who preceded her in death in 1963. Also preceding her in death besides her husband and parents were three brothers, Albert, Delbert, and Garland, and one sister, Azalea Scalise.
She is survived by two brothers, Milburn Galford, of Yucaipa, California, and Eugene Galford, of Marlinton; two sisters, Ruth Golby, of Los Angeles, California, and Jewell Loughridge-Deason, of Roseville, California.
She became a Christian at an early age and remained faithful during her lifetime as a Nazarene.
After various vocations, she chose a career in aircraft, working at Glenn L. Martin in Baltimore, Maryland, and Fairchild Aircraft in Hagerstown, Maryland. She moved to California from Hagerstown where she continued her career in aircraft as an inspector at Lear Corporation, in Santa Monica, until retirement.
Funeral services were held at the Chapel of The Chimes, Inglewood Memorial Park Cemetery, with Rev. Clarence Crites. Interment was in Ingelwood Park Cemetery, Inglewood, California.

Donald G. Ware

Donald Gene "Don" Ware, age 62, of Whitehouse, Texas, died February 24, 2002, in Dallas, Texas.
He was born at Daily, the son of the late William Edgar Ware and Clara Wooddell Ware Rexrode. In addition to his parents, a brother, Robert Neil Ware, of Geneva, Ohio, preceded him in death.
Don was a 1957 graduate of Marlinton High School.
He was employed as a salesman for Crown Motor Company in Tyler, Texas. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Whitehouse.
He is survived by his wife, Kay; son, Don Jennings, of Nashville, Tennessee; daughters, Pam Henderson, of Jacksonville, Cathy Buck, of Somerset, Kentucky, Karen Sizemore, of Hamilton, Ohio, Christy Mickow, of Whitehouse, Texas, Amy Watson, of Lyles, Tennessee; step-sisters, Martha and Helen Carpenter, of Marlinton, Catherine Callison, of Arlington, Virginia; step-brother, Dale Rexrode, of Bayshore, New York. He is the nephew of Ann Ware and Anna Lee Grimes, of Marlinton; 16 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services were held at Tyler, Texas, at Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Chapel with Rev. Sherman Mayfield, Bill Barkley and Tom Causey officiating. Burial was held in Whitehouse, Texas.

Darrell Wayne Green

Darrell Wayne Green, age 49, of Marlinton, died Sunday, March 17, 2002, at Ruby Memorial Hospitala, Morgantown, after a long illness.
He was born January 29, 1953, to the late Lon Green and Nellie "Maggie" Jackson Green.
In addition to his parents, those preceding him in death were his brothers, Bobby, Danny and Roy Green, and one sister, Lula Bell Green.
Mr. Green is survived by three sisters, Lucille Kershner, of Leivasy, Dorothy Sheets, of Craigsville, and Sally Warwick, of Crimora, Virginia.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 21, at VanReenen Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Dale Usey. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery.
Visitation 6 to 9, Wednesday.

Dennis Grimes

Dennis "Bud" Grimes, age 73, of Route 1, Marlinton, died Saturday, March 16, 2002, at Alleghany Regional Hospital at Low Moor, Virginia.
Mr. Grimes was an equipment operator and a Presbyterian.
A native of Pocahontas County, he was born October 14, 1928, the son of the late Dennis A. and Mary Buzzard Grimes.
Preceding him in death were his parents, a sister, Hallie McCarty, and a brother, Evans Grimes.
He is survived by his wife, Beatrice Hileman Grimes; four daughters, Rebecca (Becky) Simpson, of Low Moor, Virginia, Sharon Kelly and Jenny Moore, of Marlinton, and Tammy White, of Hico; two sons, Jeff Howe and Mike Grimes, both of Marlinton; two sisters, Catherine Shields, of Stony Bottom, and Eleanor Arbogast, of Marlinton; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at VanReenen Funeral Home by the Rev. Robert Shields, with burial in the Grimes Cemetery.

Edith Tharp McMillion

Edith Tharp McMillion, age 88, of Gastonia, North Carolina, formerly of Hillsboro, died Saturday, March 16, 2002, in Gaston Memorial Hospital, Gastonia.
Born September 12, 1913, at Renick, she was the daughter of the late Alan Thomas and Sabina Holmes Tharp.
She was a homemaker and a member of Beulah Methodist Church.
Mrs. McMillion was preceded in death by her first husband, Earl Long, her second husband, Theodore McMillion, sisters, Martha Cooper, Angie Hammons, and Thelma Thornhill; brother, Howard Tharp; an infant daughter and grandson, Robert Phillips Long.
Survivors include her daughter, Wanda McMillion, of Gastonia; son, Bobby Long, of Charlotte, North Carolina; brother, Warren Tharp, of Hillsboro; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services were held Wednesday at Morgan Funeral Home in Lewisburg, with burial in Rosewood Cemetery.

William M. McCoy

William M. "Willie" McCoy, age 67, of Buckeye, died Saturday, March 16, 2002, at Pocahontas Memorial Hospital.
He was a retired storekeeper at Denmar and was a member of Marvin Chapel United Methodist Church. He served in both the Army and Navy in Viet Nam and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
The son of Genevieve Vaughan McCoy, of Marlinton, and the late Lanty J. McCoy, he was born at Spice September 23, 1934.
Surviving him are his wife, Linda Wilfong McCoy; a stepdaughter, Janesa Henderson, of Daniels, and two stepsons, Tim Wilfong, of Marlinton, and Christopher Wilfong, of Buckeye; two sisters, Garnett Sharp, of Marlinton, and Judy Cutlip, of Hillsboro; two brothers, Thomas McCoy, of Hot Springs, Virginia, and Leo "Red" McCoy, of Fairlea; and one grandchild.
Preceding him in death were his father; a sister, Betty Black; and a brother, Harry R. McCoy.
Funeral services were held at VanReenen Funeral Home Tuesday afternoon by the Rev. Phyllis Cox, with burial in the Ruckman Cemetery.

Nellie Beard Kellison

Nellie Beard Kellison, age 95, died March 16, 2002, at Pocahontas Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Kellison had been a resident of Pocahontas Center for a number of years. She was a Methodist.
She was born May 18, 1906, at Hillsboro, the daughter of the late George W. and Grace McCarty Beard.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Luther Kellison, and one brother, James E. Beard.
Mrs. Kellison is survived by several cousins, including Bill McCarty, of Buckeye, and Nancy McCarty Sayers, of Lewisburg.
Graveside funeral services and burial were Sunday at Ruckman Cemetery at Marvin Chapel by the Rev. Phyllis Cox.

Mildred M. Smith

Mildred M. Smith, age 82, of Carlisle, Pennsylvania, formerly of Bedford, Pennsylvania, died Friday, March 8, 2002, at Holy Spirit Hospital, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
Born in Peterstown, Monroe County, September 10, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Walter Roy and Ola Ruth Chambers McDonald.
She was an LPN at Greenbrier Hospital in Lewisburg. She was affiliated with The Bedford United Methodist Church and member of the Methodist Women's Society of Christian Service and Phi Beta Sigma.
She was the widow of Warren C. Smith, whom she married September 23, 1939, and who died August 21, 2000.
Mrs. Smith is survived by a daughter, Constance Darnell, of Marlinton; a son, J. Dallas Smith, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; a sister, Ruth Hines, of Salem, Virginia; three brothers, Harry McDonald, of Pittsburgh, Raymond McDonald and Herbert McDonald, both of Peterstown; three grandchildren and one-great-granddaughter.
Graveside services were held at Schellsburg Cemetery March 12 by the Rev. Jeffrey Welsch.
