Beverley C. Kenney
Beverley C. Kenney, age 81, of Marlinton, died Friday, February 6, 2004, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Kenney is survived by his wife, Leona M. Kenney; a daughter, Carmella K. Combs; a son, John W. Kenney; two grandchildren, Dana Combs and Heather Luessenhop, and a great-grandchild, Grace Autumn Luessenhop.

Frances Marie Bowling
Frances Marie Bowling, age 71, of MacArthur, formerly of Marlinton, died Friday, February 6, 2004, at Appalachian Regional Hospital, Beckley.
She was a past president of the Ladies Auxiliary at Pocahontas Memorial Hospital, a member of Beckley Moose Lodge #1606, and a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Marlinton.
Born at Sprague, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Frances Piotrowski Gravely.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Muarry Bowling, a son, Jim Bowling, and a sister, Joan Peck.
Mrs. Bowling is survived by a daugher, Debra Jackson, of Franklin; two brothers, Frank Gravely and Freddy Gravely, both of Marlinton; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild, and a special nephew, Bobby Peck.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Mountain View Cemetery by Father Thatson.

Harold Lambert, Sr.
Uxter Harold Lambert, Sr., age 77, of Covington, Virginia, died Saturday, February 7, 2004, at Alleghany Regional Hospital.
Mr. Lambert was born June 19, 1926, in Frank, the son of the late Uxter and Mary Elizabeth White Lambert.
He retired in 1988 from Hercules, Inc., where he worked in the Spinning Department as an operator, and was a former employee of Howes Leather Company in Frank. He served during World War II in the U.S. Navy Shore Patrol in the Pacific Theatre of Operations.
He was the husband of Marilyn Poling Lambert. Other survivors include a son, Uxter Harold Lambert, Jr., of Covington; two sisters, Shirley Nelson, of Covington, and Jean Lynch, of Summerville, South Carolina; two brothers, Donald W. Lambert, of Arbovale, and Lonnie Gray Lambert, of Boyer; two grandchildren and a niece, Drema Jackson, of Asheville, North Carolina, who was reared in their home.
Preceding him in death were four sisters, Sylvia Simmons, Madge Harris, Elsie Lambert, and Connie Mae Taylor, and two brothers, Jack S. Lambert and Ray Lambert.
Funeral service was conducted from the Chapel of Loving Funeral Home on Tuesday morning by Rev. Michael Wright. Interment followed in Arbovale Cemetery.
Memorial tributes are suggested for contributions to a charity of choice.

Roy Keith May
Roy Keith May, age 74, of Red Hill, Pennsylvania, formerly of Bartow, died Sunday, February 8, 2004, at Grandview Hospital, Sellersville, Pennsylvania.
Following the death of his mother in 1980, he resided with his brother and sister-in-law, Bobby L. and Barbara May, in Bartow, and later moved with them when they relocated to Red Hill.
Born and raised in Bartow, he was the son of the late Phares and Jane Brewster May.
Due to his handicaps, he spennt his life at home working on the farm as a laborer and helper to his parentns.
He attended the Brush Run Church in Boyer.
Surviving in addition to his brother and sister-in-law, with whom he lived, are brothers, James W. May, of Essex, Maryland, and Frank D. May, of Florida, and a sister, Dallas Chartier, of Okeechobee, Florida.
He ws preceded in death by two brothers, Charles May and Edgar May, and two sisters, Clara Lambert and Wilda Mazzonatti.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Mary A. Wood
Mary A. Wood, age 82, of Bel Air, Maryland, died September 8, 2003, at Gilcrest Hospice in Towson, Maryland.
Born April 2, 1921, in Cass. She was the daughter of George Victor Blackhurst, who owned and operated restaurants in Cass until the depression.. She was a Harford County resident for 13 years.
She married Olin Wood on October 22, 1937, and was married for 62 years..
Mrs. Wood was employed as a sales clerk.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Wood is survived by a son, James D. Wood, of Bel Air; brothers, Frederick Blackhurst, of Franklin, Pennsylvania, and George Blackhurst, of Gravious Mills, Missouri; and a sister, Grace Blackhurst, of Milton Freewaters, Oregon.
The Rev. Peggy Groseclose officiated at a service September 16 at Mt. Carmel Methodist Chapel. Interment was in Mt. Lookout Baptist Church Cemetery in West Virginia.

Fred L. Blackhurst, Sr.
Fred L. Blackhurst, Sr., age 81, of Franklin, Pennsylvania, died Frdiay, November 21, 2003, in his home.
Born July 8, 1922, in Cass, he was the son of George Victor and Margaret Linnan Blackhurst.
Mr. Blackhurst was an Army captain during World War II. He was part of the U.S. Army's 42nd "Rainbow" Division that forged its way north through France in October and November 1944. He was a platoon sergeant at the time.
Mr. Blackhurst returned to Franklin on February 1, 1946, with a Bronze Star, a Silver Star and an European Theater Badge with four battle stars to his credit.
He retired in 1983 as a welder and pipefitter for the Pipe Fitters and Steam Fitters Local 47 Union. He also owned and operated Fred's Texaco at Coefield's Corners.
Mr. Blackhurst was a member of St. Paatrick Church. He was a member of the Franklin Elks 110 and a former member of the Knights of Columbus.
On December 19, 1942, he was married to Adelaide E. Karns, who survives..
Also surviving are a son, Fred L. Blackhurst, Jr., of Franklin; two daughters, Rebecca Nash, of Paris, Texas, and Peggy Brubeck, of Strongsville, Ohio; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; a brother, George Blackhurst, of Gravois Mills, Missouri; and a sister, Grace Ferguson, of Milton Freewater, Oregon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Robert Gilbert, Charles Gilbert and James Blackhurst, and a sister, Mary Alice Wood.
Funeral services were held at St. Patrick Church on November 24 by the pastor, the Rev. Robert Manning. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery.

Harry L. "Bub" Wiley, Sr.
Harry L. "Bub" Wiley, Sr., of Droop Mountain, died at his residence Friday, February 6, 2004, following a long illness. Mr. Wiley was 72.
Born in Pocahontas County December 26, 1931, he was the son of the late Hugh and Edith Brown Wiley. He was of the Protestant faith, a veteran of the U. S. Navy and a lifelong resident of Droop Mountain.
Mr. Wiley was retired from Georgia Pacific Corporation with more than 35 years of service.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Switzer and an infant.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Wiley; son, Harry L. Wiley, Jr., of Droop Mountain; daughters, Tonja Mothes, of Jacox, and Lola Alderman, of Spring Creek; brother Edward Wiley, of Falls Church, Virginia; sisters, Neomia Wiley, of Droop Mountain, Betty Myles, of Renick, and Mary Wingler, of Droop Mountain; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Lee Norton Danner
Lee Norton Danner, 73, of Clover Lick, formerly of Rockville, Maryland, died of complications from influenza on January 10, 2004, in Low Moor, Virginia.
Born February 17, 1930, in California, he was the son of the late Philip and Vernita Gordy Danner.
Mr. Danner served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Southern California, Berkeley, and earned a Master's Degree from the University of Maryland. He retired from IBM after 25 years and was a professor of computer science at Eastern Tennessee State University, The College of West Virginia in Beckley, and Bluefield State College. In recent years, he was employed at Snowshoe Ski Resort in Guest Services and Adventure departments. He was also a volunteer at the McClintic Library in Marlinton.
Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Weston-Dawkes, of Maryland, and Sarah Evans, of Arizona; one son, Philip Danner, of Maryland; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Hugh Danner, of California.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 14, at 2 p.m. at the VanReenen Funeral Home in Marlinton. Family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. at the funeral home.
