Pauline Pyles Galford
Pauline Virginia Pyles Galford, age 79, of Slaty Fork, died Saturday, April 17, 2004, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
Mrs. Galford, the widow of Wallace Arlie Galford, was a business woman involved with farm, real estate and other interests in the Slaty Fork/Snowshoe area. She was a member of the Big Spring Presbyterian Church at Slaty Fork and a member of Eastern Star, Cass Chapter.
She is survived by two daughters, Karen Galford Friel and Jo Debra Galford Gandee, both of Slaty Fork; a son, Harvey Galford, also of Slaty Fork; a sister, Frances Wilfong, of Hartstown, Pennsylvania; a brother, Herman Pyles; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at Big Spring Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Dan McGill. Burial was in the Galford Cemetery.

Anita E. Mallow
Anita Elizabeth Miller Mallow, age 74, of Marlinton, died Thursday, April 15, 2004, at Pocahontas Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Mallow was a member of the Marlinton Presbyterian Church.
The daughter of the late Winters and Retta Gladwell Miller, of Hillsboro, she was born January 28, 1930, in Brownsville, Pennsylvania.
She was the widow of the late Dr. John M. Mallow, Sr. Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Billy Miller and Alfred Miller.
Survivors include one daughter, Anne M. Workman, of Barboursville; a son, Dr. John M. Mallow, Jr., of Marlinton; three grandchildren; two sisters, Marilyn Miller, of Charleston, and Virginia Smiley, of Stow, Ohio; and one brother, Jack Miller, of Cross Lanes. Funeral services were held at noon Saturday in the Marlinton Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Harold Thomas Elmore, with burial in Mountain View Cemetery.
Memorial gifts may be made to Pocahontas Memorial Hospital.

John Phillip Kramer, Jr.
John Phillip Kramer, Jr., age 89, of Elk Route, Marlinton, died Tuesday, April 13, 2004, at Pocahontas Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Kramer was a woods-man, was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps as a young man, and served in the Army in World War II. He was a member of Mary's Chapel Presbyterian Church.
He was born October 2, 1914, at Stony Bottom, the son of the late John Will Kramer and Laura Rose Kramer.
Surviving Mr. Kramer are his wife, Elva Gertrude Reed Kramer; two daughters, Lola M. Crews and Linda K. Byrd, both of Marlinton, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death in addition to his parents were three sisters, Clair Bell Kramer Miller, Grace Kramer, and Margaret Kramer, and two brothers, Lee Kramer and Howard Kramer.
Funeral services were held at VanReenen Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday afternoon by Pastors Robert Mann and Sam Felton, with burial in the Gibson Cemetery.
Memorial gifts may be made to Pocahontas Memorial Hospital.

Delmas D. Kincaid
Delmas D. Kincaid, age 90, of Buckeye, died Tuesday, April 13, 2004, in Greenbrier Valley Medical Center.
Mr. Kincaid was a former coal miner and member of United Mine Workers of America. He was a member of the Baptist Church.
He was born at Maple Fork December 29, 1913, the son of the late Samuel E. and Katy Bell McGary Kincaid.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three wives, Julia Willis Kincaid, Ruth Anna Elkins Kincaid, Inez McMillion Kincaid; two sisters, Mary Eperley and Syths Kincaid, and four brothers, Mate Kincaid, Robert Kincaid, Phillip Kincaid, and Wilson Kincaid.
Survivors include his friend, Shirley Back; four daughters, Phyllis Dilley, of Garfield Heights, Ohio, Kathleen Beverage and Tammy Broce, both of Marlinton, and Carolyn Amos, of Cowen; five sons, David Kincaid, of Bluefield, Elihu Kincaid, of Maryland, John R. Smith, of Nitro, John Kincaid, of Richmond, Virginia, Delmas Kincaid, Jr.; a brother, Samuel Kincaid, of Oregon; twenty-six grandchildren, fifty-two great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at VanReenen Funeral Home on Sunday afternoon by the Rev. Norman Lee Alderman. Burial was in Mount Zion Cemetery.

Linda Whittington
Linda Whittington, age 54, of Harrisonburg, Virginia, died Friday, April 16, 2004, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg.
Ms. Whittington was a CNA and was a member of Frost United Methodist Church.
Born in Marlinton, she was the daughter of the late June and Elizabeth McCarty Buzzard.
A son, Kenny Arbogast, and two brothers, Delmos Buzzard and Dennis Buzzard, are deceased.
Surviving her are a daughter, Sarah L. Martin, of Harrisonburg; a son, Delton S. Arbogast, of Harrisonburg; two sisters, Jean Boggs and Mary Lou Waugh, both of Marlinton; two brothers, Clark Buzzard and Ben Buzzard, both of Frost; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at VanReenen Funeral Home by the Rev. David Rittenhouse, with burial in Mount Zion Cemetery.

Hazel Juanita Hinerman
Hazel Juanita Hinerman, age 75, of Beverly, formerly of Monongah, died Friday, April 16, 2004, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown due to injuries sustained in a car accident.
She was born October 7, 1928, in Slaty Fork, the daughter of the late Edward and Flossie Varner Pennington.
Mrs. Hinerman was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Hinerman, and nine brothers and sisters.
She is survived by a son, Edward Wayne Hinerman, of Worthington, two grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren; three sisters, LeaBelle Gum and Betty Swink, both of Cass, and Retha Doyle, of Mace; four brothers, Carl, of LaPuente, California, James, of Durbin, Roy, of Green Bank, and Paul, of Fraziers Bottom.
Services were held in Shinnston on Wednesday, April 21. Interment was at the Grandview Memorial Cemetery.

Henry Lee Crookshanks
Henry Lee Crookshanks, age 47, of Richmond, Virginia, died Saturday, April 17, 20204, at his home.
He was the owner and operator of a construction company.
The son of Ruth Truex Crookshanks, of Clintonville, and the late Lacy Crookshanks, he was born February 19, 1957, in Ohio.
Mr. Crookshanks is survived by his wife, Virginia Lynn Sizemore; his mother, Ruth Truex Crookshanks, of Clintonville; a daughter, Leslie Crookshanks, of Marlinton; a son, Lacy Crookshanks, also of Marlinton; eight brothers and sisters.
Graveside services were held Tuesday at Greenbrier Memorial Gardens in Lewisburg by the Rev. Youell Altizer.

Pauline Ball Scudder
Pauline Ball Scudder, age 96, died of a heart attack on Wednesday, April 14, 2004, at Westminster Suncoast Manor in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Mrs. Scudder was the mother of Paula Newkirk, of Gainesville, Georgia, formerly of Marlinton. She and the two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren are the only survivors.
Memorial services were held in the Gainesville Presbyterian Church on Sunday. Burial will be beside her husband, Captain Edgar A. Ball, in Arlington Memorial National Cemetery.

Paul B. Slavin
Paul B. ("Tink" and "Rebel") Slavin, age 86, of Brookfield, Ohio, died at home Wednesday, April 14, 2004, following an extended illness.
Mr. Slavin was born in Arbovale on June 11, 1917, a son of John and Ina Kerr Slavin
He served in the U.S. Army as a PFC with the 727th Military Police Battalion during World War II. Decorations and Citations include European-African-Middle Eastern Service Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Americana Theater Service Ribbon, and World War II victory Ribbon. Prior to this, he was a member of the Civil Conservation Corps.
He retired in 1980 from GATX, Masury, as an inplant truck driver, after 31 years of service. He also had worked as a janitor for Valley View, Brookfield.
Survivors include his wife, Susan A. Sheets Slavin, whom he married May 18, 1946; a daughter, Debbie Meeker; son, Terry Slavin, of Masury; five grandsons, three great-grandsons, and two step-great-grandsons.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Madeline Chafin and a grandson, Allen Meeker.
Funeral services were held Saturday at the Madasc Funeral Chapel, Brookfield, by the Rev. Joel Dickson. Burial was in Crown Hill Burial Park, Vienna.
