Dewey Wesley Hammons
Dewey Wesley Hammons,?age 81, of Buckeye, died?Sunday, February 27, 2011,?at his home.
Born May 31, 1929, near?Huntersville, he was a son of?the late Lee Andrew and?Binnie Copehaver Hammons.
Dewey was a retired warehouse?man for Southern?States, was of the Church of?God faith and an Army veteran?of the Korea Conflict.
He never married, but had?several nieces and nephews.
Dewey resided with his?sister, Helen, in Buckeye for?the last 11 years of his life.?He loved spending time in?his little workshop, making?birdhouses, jewelry boxes,?picture frames and whatever
caught his fancy. He spent?most of his time sitting in his?shop reading the paper and?listening to WVMR. He?spent many years playing?bluegrass music and took?great joy in seeing young?children take an interest in?music and woodworking. He?took great interest in his honeybees,?growing tomatoes?and his small flower bed.
In addition to his parents?he was preceded in death by?a sister, Goldie Burgess; six?brothers, Okey Hammons,?Cecil Hammons, James?Hammons, Theodore Hammons,?Harold Hammons and
Lacey Hammons.
He is survived by two sisters,?Helen Friel, of Buckeye,?and Mazie Burgess, of?Marlinton.
Funeral service is Saturday,?March 12, 11 am. at?VanReenen Funeral Home?with David McCall officiating.?Interment with Military?Rites will be in Kee Cemetery?in Buckeye. Family will?receive friends two hours?prior to the service.
