Wendell August Monk

Wendell August Monk, age 70, of Arbovale, died Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins.

Born August 6, 1940, at Durbin, he was a son of the late Burnell W. and Orpha C. Rosberg Monk.

Wendell was a retired machinist for NRAO with 36 years of service, and was a member of Kerr Memorial Brethren Church where he taught Sunday School. He was a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne while serving in the United States Army.

He is survived by his wife, Linda L. Barkley Monk, of Arbovale; two sons, Gregory A. Monk, and wife, Kelle, and John D. Monk, and wife, Loretta, all of Elkins; five grandchildren, Kristin Monk, Tyler Monk, Cassie Monk, Krystopher Monk and Kelseigh Monk; two sisters, Joan Barkley, and husband, Martin, of Arbovale, and Gloria Greathouse, and husband, Buster, of Leonardtown, Maryland; three brothers, Edward Monk, and wife, Margaret, of Bridgewater, Virginia, Ronald Monk, and wife, Polly, of Arbovale, and Douglas Monk, and wife, Ginger, of Elkins; and several nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends Friday, March 18, 6 - 8 p.m. at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home in Abovale. Funeral service is Saturday, March 19, 1 p.m. at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home with Rev. David Rittenhouse officiating. Interment with Military Rites by the Pocahontas County Honor Guard will be in the Boyer Cemetery.
