Nelson G. Spinks
Nelson G. Spinks, age 89, of Elkton, Maryland, died Wednesday, May 18, 2011, at the Stella Maris Hospital in Towson, Maryland.
Born September 26, 1921, in Pocahontas County, he was a son of the late Henry Clay and Icy Pearl Dan Spinks.
Nelson served in the Civil Conservation Corps during the Great Depression. He joined the United States Navy in 1941. After an Honorable Discharge he moved to Maryland and worked at Triumph Ammunitions Plant in Elkton. He also worked at the Bainbridge Naval Yard. He retired from the Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Canteen Service after 35 years. He was also a Freemason and very proud of it.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his siblings, Warren Aldermann, Thelma Aldermann and Glenn Spinks.
He is surived by his son, John Spinks, and wife, Helen, of Elkton, Maryland; a step-daughter, Linda Helmes, of Lantana, Florida; two granddaughters, Jacky McPherson, of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Jessee Spinks, of Elkton, Maryland; a grandson, Jason Spinks, of Clearwater, Florida; a great-granddaughter, Heather McPherson; a great-grandson, Zayden McPherson; siblings, Hale Aldermann, of Dallas, Texas, Arlo Aldermann, of Tennessee, Lucille Bryant and Harold Aldermann, both of Mississippi; and two very special people, Haley Bibey, and her mother, Karen Bibey, of Rising Sun, Maryland.
Funeral service is Thursday, May 26, 2 p.m. at the R. T. Foard Funeral Home in Elkton, Maryland. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
