Juanita Colleen Ryder

Juanita Colleen Ryder, age 77, of Cass, died Wednesday, June 15, 2011, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Virginia.

Born August 19, 1933, at Cass, she was a daughter of the late Lester Earl Sturgill, Sr. and Ruth Elizabeth Neighbors Sturgill.

Juanita was of the Methodist faith. She was employed by Showshoe Mountain, Cass Scenic Railroad and the Bath County Dam.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arlie Hannah Ryder; two sisters, Shelby Jean Sturgill and Sharon Hope Sturgill; and a brother, Lester Earl Sturgill, Jr.

She is survived by three daughters, Brenda Gore, and husband, Bob, of Pasadena, Maryland, Sharon Kirby, and husband, Byrl, of Inwood, and Shelby Lowe, of Fairlea; a son, Richard Ryder, and wife, Pam, of Beckley; seven grandchildren, Krista, Kimberly, Christopher, Curtis, Justin, Brittany and Joshua; three great-grandchildren, Austin, Alyssa and Aden; five sisters, Carolyn Maurice Porsch, of Pasadena, Maryland, Patricia Barrett, of Franklin, Glenna Lou Tate, of Pasadena, Maryland, Glema Sue Sassman, of Baltimore, Maryland, and Belva Yvonne Cassell; and two brothers, Vernon Lee Sturgill, of Cass, and Larry E. Sturgill, of Brandywine.

Family will receive friends Saturday, June 18, from 6 -8 p.m. at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home in Arbovale. Funeral service is Sunday, June 19, 2 p.m. at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home with Rev. David Fuller officiating. Interment will be in Hilltop Cemetery near Cass.
