John W. Kershner
John W. Kershner, age 85, of Ashland, Kentucky, formerly of Droop, died Thursday, August 11, 2011, in Ashland, Kentucky.
Born March 12, 1926, at Spice, he was a son of the late Wallace P. Kershner, Jr. and Nannie Mary McCoy Kershner.
John was a World War II Army veteran and had resided in Ashland, Kentucky, for 46 years. He graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1944 and attended Davis and Elkins College before becoming a Federal Correctional Officer. He retired from the Federal Bureau of Prisons after 28 years of service.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Vertie May, Zeda Dower, Hazel Cochran and Grace Strangeland; and five brothers, Sterling Kershner, Bland Kershner, Clyde Kershner, Roy Kershner and Wallace P. Kershner.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Frances Clutter Kershner; a son, Douglas Kershner, and wife, Patti, of Marion, Ohio; a sister, Agnes Simmons, of Lewisburg; a brother-in-law, Jack Clutter, and wife, Bonnie, of Second Creek; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside service with military rites is Monday, August 15, 1 p.m. at Rosewood Cemetery in Lewisburg. Friends may call?one hour prior to the service?at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home in Lewisburg
