Robert Stephen "Lane" Howard, age 16, of Organ Cave, died Sunday, August 14, 2011, from injuries received in an automobile accident.

Born May 22, 1995, at Ronceverte, he was the beloved and adored son of Steve and Laura Smith Howard, of Organ Cave.

Lane was a sophomore at Greenbrier East High School. He was a avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing, and he enjoyed his job as a tour guide at Organ Cave.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Bob Howard and Fredric Smith; and great-grandfathers, Fred Burns, Homer Howard, Ray Smith and Jesse Tench.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sisters, Jessica Howard, and Eva, and Brittany Brown, and Steven; a niece, Olivia Howard; two nephews, Ayden Cole Brunty and Braxton Brunty; grandmothers, Bonnie Howard and Linda Smith; great-grandmothers, Lucille Burns, Cinda Howard and Mildred Tench; aunts and uncles, Mike and Brenda Howard, Mitch and Lisa Howard, Linda nd Danny Seldomridge, David Smith, Debbie and Rob Smith, Cindy Toler and Eddie Alderson, Mark and Polly Smith and Betsy and Sean McAdams; God-parents, John Robert and Sonja McDaniel, and their daughter, Claudia; life-long best friend, Jesse McDaniel; cousins, Brandi, Cassi, Kayla, Tyler, Megan, Hunter, Emma, Fredric, Sarah, Taylor, Riley, Lauren, Julia, Reagan and Molly; and many friends and extended family.

Family will receive friends Thursday, August 18, 6 -8 p.m. at Rhema Christian Center in Fairlea. Funeral service is Friday, August 19, 2 p.m. at McLean Presbyterian Church near Ronceverte with Dr. Dexter Taylor, Rev. Jack Daniel and Rev. Carl Pattison officiating. Interment will be in McLean Cemetery.
