Carl Virgil Ray
Carl Virgil Ray, age 85, of Augusta, Georgia, died Sunday, August 28, 2011.
He was born in Huntersville and was the son of the late Albert B. Ray and Zula Grimes Ray Young,
Carl resided in the Augusta, Georgia, area for the past 51 years. He was a millwright for Columbia Nitrogen and served in the US Air Corps from 1944 to 1947.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edna E. Shue Ray, a sister, Mary Etta Walters, step-father, Lee Young, an infant brother and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is survived by two sons, Carmen V. Ray, and wife, Kathy, and Condall D. Ray, and wife, Cathy, all of Augusta, Georgia; two daughters, Carmel J. Schlamp, and husband, Randy, of Missouri, and Conda B. Momcilovic, and husband, Rodney, of Harlem, Georgia; a brother, Robert B. "Bob" Ray, and wife, Hilda, of Waxsaw, North Carolina; brothers-in-law, Wiley "Buck" Walters, of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, Max Gibson, of Maxwelton, and Robert Galford, of Marlinton; sisters-in-law, Berlene Long and Wenona McNeal, of Augusta, Georgia, and Vivian Gibson, of Maxwelton; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be Thursday, September 1, 2011, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet and Son with Rev. Jim Tirko officiating. Entombment will follow in Bellevue Memorial Gardens Crypt. Honorary Escort will be the Patriot Guard Riders.
