Buhl M. Adkins

Buhl M. Adkins, died Sunday, September 4, 2011, at his home.

Born in Nicholas County, he was a son of the late Sylvester and Rosabelle Adkins.

Buhl was a Christian and enjoyed reading books written by Joel Osteen.

When he was a young man he began to mine coal with only a pick and shovel. In later years he owned several coal mines including B. A. Coal Company from which he retired in 1993.

He built his first bicycle, his first car and obtained his pilot's license. He loved flying until he was "grounded" by his wife after a crash, from which he walked away.

After retirement his hobbies included restoring antique cars, walking, hiking and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Jean Holcomb Adkins; a son, Gary Adkins; four sisters; and seven brothers.

He is survived by three children, Tim Adkins, and wife, Sharon, Judy Derberry, and husband, Duane, and Crystal Browning, and husband, McKennis; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty Price, of Maryland; and several nieces, nephews and friends.

Memorial service is Saturday, September 24, at New Beginnings Worship Center in Summersville.
