Wilbur Owen Curry

Wilbur Owen Curry, age 89, of Marlinton, died Thursday, October 6, 2011, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center in Ronceverte.

Born January 15, 1922, at Cass, he was a son of the late Owen and May Geiger Curry.

Wilbur was owner of Curry's Supermarket, was a former Pocahontas County Sheriff, a former Tax Deputy, a former Pocahontas County Commissioner, a member of the Marlinton United Methodist Church, member of the Marlinton Masonic Lodge and was a Navy veteran of World War II.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Virgil "Jimmy" Curry and Dale Curry; and five sisters, Audra Murphy, Louise Kohlman, Helen Hammond, Madeline Hayes and Evelyn Moran.

He is survived by his wife, Gaynell Wagner Curry, of Marlinton; a daughter, Shelia Kaplan, of Reston, Virginia; a son, Greg Curry, of Lewisburg; a sister, Carolyn Robinson, of Richmond, Virginia; two brothers, Arden Curry, of Charleston, and Earl "Butch" Curry, of Leesburg, Virginia; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was October 9 at the Marlinton United Methodist Church with Revs. Joe Geiger and Earl D. Michael officiating. Interment with Military Rites was in Mountain View Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Marlinton United Methodist Church, Pocahontas Memorial Hospital or the Pocahontas County Humane Society.
