THIS Saturday, May 7thᅠis theᅠ1st Annual GoMarlinton FREE Community-Wide Yard Sale, and I donメt know about you, but I love me a good yard sale! I donメt know what it is about hunting for just the right item at just the right price, but I love it!

Iメm particularly excited for this yard sale, because it involves the whole town of Marlinton, and you know what that means: more stuff to choose from! Thereメs going to be a huge public area over by the Gazebo in the Mini Park, where people can set up, and as of right now, GoMarlinton has 28 parties pre-registered for tables at the Gazebo area. Also, the Red Hat Society and the Humane Society are going to be selling their wares at the Gazebo area, and local businesses like the Old Clark Inn and Locust Hill B & B and Cabin (Peggy Smith's old house) are going to be setting up in their yards. People are also setting up in their yards. All pre-registrants will be included in a Town Map marking their address, so both in- and out-of-towners know to stop by and peruse their goods.

Here are the specifics:

When: Saturday, May 7th, 2011

Time: 8 a.m. ヨ 2 p.m.

Rain Date: Saturday, March 14th, 2011 (though the weather forecast is predicting plenty of sun)

Cost:ᅠFREE!

First-come, first-serve tables will be provided for free. Please bring your own chairs.

GoMarlinton has provided advertising both in Pocahontas County and surrounding areas, sign-age for visitors (so people know where to go), and a Town Map of Participants (which will be handed out at the GoMarlinton picnic table in the Mini Park and the GoMarlinton table at the River Pub).

The Farmerメs Market opens that day too. They are providing music as well from 10 a.m. ヨ 11 a.m.

If youメd like to be included on the Town Map of Participants, pre-registration is required. Just call me (Michelle Evans) at 304.799.4173. Please leave a message with your name and number if Iメm not home, and Iメll call you right back!

Southern States is having their big Garden Weekend with hot dogs too.

Donメt forget to check out people on the side streets who have set up in their yards. We will have signs up indicating which streets have people set up, but donメt be afraid to explore. You never know who may decide to set up last-minute!

Lisa Thompson will be taking donations of non-perishable food, bottled water, clothing, and shoes for tornado victims. Stop by and see her at her table in the Gazebo area.

Also, GoMarlinton would love it if area businesses got involved as well. Maybe a clearance sale, a sidewalk sale, a lunch and/or beverage special, or a scratch-n-dent sale would be a good fit for your business? I know the River Pub opens at noon with drink and food specials, which y'all know I'm pretty stoked about! Hudson's is also having a 75% off sale on selected items, and the Dirtbean will be having a special too.

Iメll be looking for a good vacuum, so keep an eye out for me!

The River Pub's "Soft" Opening

Me and the crowd enjoying food and drink at the new River Pub.

The River Pub had its soft opening this past Saturday night, and I, for one, have been waiting for an establishment like this to open in downtown Marlinton (walking distance from my apartment!) ever since I moved here last Fall. I was not disappointed!

Formerly Rosemaryメs, the River Pub is now owned by couple Todd and Leslie, who have totally remodeled the place. On top of that, the River Pub offers an array of bottled beers (26, to be exact), ranging from Bud Light and Corona to Great Lakes and Magic Hat #9. On draft, they have Bud Light, Great Lakes Dortmunder Gold (a lager), and Great Lakes Pale River (a pale ale), the last two being from a brewery located in Cleveland, OH. They also have a limited (albeit delicious) menu right now consisting of hot wings (seven flavors with more to come), mozzarella sticks, and handmade-by-Todd corn tortilla chips and salsa, with more menu items to come. They also have a flat screen TV, plenty of seating both at the bar and at tables, and free Wi-Fi (business lunch, anyone?).

What impressed me most, though, was the atmosphere. Todd and Leslie have done a great job creating a friendly, accommodating, everyone welcome environment. Upon arriving, I immediately saw a ton of people I know (Im new here, remember!), which, to me, is a sign of a good neighborhood bar. I was also particularly pleased with the dcor. While it was definitely clean, dimly lit (as all bars should be, in my opinion), cheerful, and pleasing to the eye, it was also very comfortable. Personally, Im not fond of fancy places, so to me, Todd and Leslie hit the nail on the head.

I settled in for the long haul that night, and I can't wait for their Grand Opening on April 30th!

The River Pub is located at 823 1st Avenue inᅠMarlinton, WV. Their number isᅠ(304) 799-3915, and they are open Wed-Thu 4pm-11pm; Fri 4pm-2am; Sat 12pm-2am; and Sun 12pm-10pm.
