The Obama Administration has announced the individuals who will serve on the West Virginia Farm Service Agency State Committee. The State Committee members will oversee the activities of the agency, including carrying out the state agricultural conservation programs, resolving appeals from the agriculture community and helping to keep producers informed about FSA programs. These individuals will work with USDA to help farmers and ranchers build and maintain successful operations that produce the safe, nutritious food supply that America needs while spurring economic development in our nation’s rural communities. They bring the experience and passion necessary to help continue efforts to rebuild and revitalize rural America. The individuals appointed to serve on the West Virginia FSA State
Committee include:
Marjorie H. Burke (Chairperson). Burke, from Sand Fork, WV, served on the Board of Governors for Glenville State College from 2000 to 2010. In 1978, Burke was elected to the West Virginia House of Delegates. She remained in the House of Delegates until 1990, serving as Vice-Chair of the Agricultural and Veterans Affairs Committee and Speaker Pro-Tempore. In addition to her public policy experience, Burke has owned and operated Titan Farm, a 1000 acre farm, since 1970. Ms. Burke has a B.S. degree in Education from Glenville State College.
G. Warren Mickey. Mickey, from Charles Town, WV, has been a teacher for more than ten years and Jefferson County Director of Federal Programs for eight years. Mickey served on the Jefferson County Board of Education for 18 years. He also served on the West Virginia Democratic Executive Committee. Mickey has a Masters degree in History and Secondary School Administration from West Virginia University.
Harry K. Perkins. Perkins, from Frankford, WV, has been farming over 50 years. Perk Farm is a certified organic dairy and turkey operation. He served on the West Virginia State Vocational Education Committee for eight years, nine years on the Greenbrier FSA County Committee, and six years on the Greenbrier Valley Conservation District Board. Perk Farm received the West Virginia Soil and Water Conservation Award in 1986 and went on to win the National Soil and Water Conservation Award.
Perkins has an AA degree in Agriculture from Potomac State College.
