High Waters

The river has been at flood stage twice in the past week, Monday morning crest was higher than last Thursday night, although Knapps Creek was higher the first time. The water came over First Avenue early Monday morning and several families moved out temporarily.

Bartow-Frank-Durbin Fire Department

With the melting of the snow, we find the Bartow-Frank-Durbin Fire Department alive and active, and work being resumed on the firehouse.

The “Oyster Supper” held last Saturday in the Durbin Grade School cleared approximately $300.

Twice this month we responded to fire calls: once to Mozell Thompson’s, Frank, where the situation was already under control when the crew arrived; also, to Elvin Martin’s, Bartow, at which place a shop was ablaze with an oil fire.

Our ambulance runs since the beginning of the year have numbered five–three to Marlinton and two to Eklins.
