Thanksgiving

We plough the fields and scatter
The good seed on the land,
But it is fed and watered
By God's almighty hand;
He sends the snow in winter,
The warmth to swell the grain,
The breezes and the sunshine
And soft refreshing rain.
He only is the Maker
Of all things near and far;
He paints the wayside flower,
He lights the evening star;
The winds and waves obey Him,
By him the birds are fed;
Much more, to us, His children,
He gives our daily bread.
We thank, Thee then, O Father,
For all things bright and good,
The seedtime and the harvest,
Our life, our health, our food;
No gifts have we to offer
For all thy love imparts,
But that which thou desirest,
Our humble, thankful hearts.

Cass Train
The legislative committee appointed to investigate the purchase of the Mower Lumber Company train and track at Cass for a tourist attraction did approve such attention this week. Plans presented to the committee included about eight miles of the science track.

Bears
Rowland Bailey, of Princeton, added another bear to his credit week before last when he killed a 208 pound male bear on Black Mountain. This was his fifth bear in as many years in Pocahontas County. He was a member of a party with the bear-hunting twins Oscar and Austin Sharp, and their dogs. He thinks these men put on the finest hunts there are and deserve a big boost.

Other bears killed were: Charlie Taylor, November 12, 150 pound male on the head of Galford's Creek; Bernard Skeens, November 9, 200 pound male on Kinnison Mountain; Edward Galusky, 210 pound male on Black Mountain; and June Galford, November 1, 300 pound male on Williams River.
