From the desk of
Mrs. Jane Price Sharp
The squirrel population is admittedly low but most hunters got some last Saturday. Grouse hunting is good, turkeys are there if you can get them. Fine summer weather has made fires a hazard. Four or five small fires over the weekend.
Gas Drilling
An exploratory well soon will be drilled on Brushy Mountain near Huntersville on National Forest lands. This project is being carried on and financed by the Tidewater Oil Company and the South Penn Oil Company. Picked as the most logical place in the southern part of the field, they are exploring the site on Brushy Mountain. It is at an altitude of about 3,250 feet above sea level. They will drill 10,000 feet down. A Pittsburgh firm has contracted the drilling and hope to start by November 1.
