Ted and Ann Nelson recently attended his Naval Ship Reunion at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Ted enlisted into the U. S. Navy on December 5, 1954, at Clarksburg. He served in the Personnel Department on four ships, the USS Cambria, USS Stribling, USS Sampson and the USS America.
He spent one year in Rota, Spain, and was stationed in the United States for the rest of his time.

The Nelsons attended the past six reunions which have been held in different cities. They plan to go to Branson, Missouri, for four days in October for the seventh USS Stribling reunion.

Chief Nelson was born and raised at Cass, the ninth son of Walter Nelson and Dervie Slaylon Nelson. He attended school in Cass and Green Bank High School. He had four brothers who served with the U. S. Army: Don Nelson, Phil Nelson, Tom Nelson and Bob Nelson.

Fifty-five years ago Ted married Ann Oglesby, of Brunswick, Georgia. They have two sons, Tony, wife, Mary Ellen, and Jimmy, and wife, Carla; four grandsons, Landon, and wife, Shelly, Raynor, and wife, Lauren, Brandon and Robbie; and one granddaughter, Shelly.

Ted's sister, Dollie Lewis, lives in Green Bank.

After retiring from the Navy, Ted worked 17 years for the South Carolina Ports Authority and in the security department for Tandy Corp.

He and Ann are active members of Marshes of Glenn Baptist Church in Brunswick, Georgia, where they presently reside with their family nearby, but Ted will always love and remember his friends and classmates in Pocahontas County and looks forward to visiting every year.
