This Saturday WVMR-AM celebrates its 30th birthday. The first test broadcasts were for Pioneer Days, 1981. Annabelle Schaffner was the first voice heard on the air on Thursday morning, July 9, 1981; later that day Glenda VanReenan did a remote broadcast from the porch of the First National Bank.

After Pioneer Days the station shut down to finish construction of the studio; regular daily broadcasts began Monday, August 17, 1981.
