Rev. Thomas Henderson
Rev. Thomas Edward Henderson, age 84, of Harrisonburg, Virgnia, died December 9, 2006, at Sunnyside Retirement Community.
Rev. Henderson was born November 18, 1922, in Knoxville, Tennessee, the son of the late James Harvey and Frances Walker Maine Henderson.
He was a 1940 graduate of Central High School, Fountain City, Tennessee, a 1946 graduate of Maryville College, Maryville, Tennessee, and a 1949 graduate of Union Theological Seminary, Richmond, Virginia.
During World War II, he served in the 49th Armored Infantry and was wounded in the Battle from the Rhur to the Rhine Rivers.ᅠ He served churches in Churchville and Rose Hill, Virginia, Gastonia and Ellenboro, North Carolina, Green Bank and Burlington, andᅠ in McCoole, Maryland and Marion and Crayne, Kentucky.
He retired to Harrisonburg in November 1987, and served as a volunteer Chaplain at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.ᅠ He sang for 10 years with the Shenandoah Valley Choral Society, and served on their Board of Directors.ᅠ Heᅠ also served as Stated Supply and interim pastor at several area churches after his retirement.ᅠ He attended the Trinity Presbyterian Church and was active in several house churches at Trinity and also sang in the choir.ᅠ He moved to Sunnyside in December, 1999.
On August 19, 1945, he married Dorothy Genette Buchanan, who survives.ᅠ Also surviving are three children, David E. Henderson, Chesire, Connecticut, Doris A. Henderson, Fort Washington, Maryland, John F. Henderson, Harrisonburg,ᅠ Virginia, and two grandchildren.
The Rev. Paul OメGorek and Rev. Dr. Ann Held conducted a memorial service Sunday at Meredith Chapel at Sunnyside Retirement Community.ᅠ Burial was at Mt. Sinai United Methodist Church Cemetery in Harrisonburg.
