Roy Pierce Simmons
Roy Pierce Simmons, age 82, of Craigsville, died Sunday, December 17, 2006, at Summersville Memorial Hospital,ᅠ after a short illness.
He entered the Marine Corps at Paris Island and was discharged from San Diego, California.ᅠ A Veteran of World War II, he survived the invasion of Iwo Jima and was a recipient of the Purple Heart.ᅠ He was a lifetime member of Hick-Hambrick Marine Corps League and was active in organization of young Marines.ᅠ He was active in VFW in Craigsville.
Mr. Simmons was retired from Sewell Coal Company as a Superintendent.ᅠ He was a member of St. Lukeメs United Methodist Church in Craigsville.ᅠ He was a member of Hillsboro International Order of Odd Fellows, member of Richwood Moose Lodge, and an Admiral of Cherry River Navy in Richwood.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nelson and Bessie Boggs Simmons, and a brother, Jordan Simmons.
Surviving him are his wife, Barbara Roberts Simmons; two brothers, Paul Simmons, of Hillsboro, and Claude Simmons, of Craigsvillle; and a sister, Anita Rodebaugh, of Craigsville.
Funeral services were Wednesday, December 20, in St. Lukeメs United Methodist Church, Craigsvilleᅠ by the Rev. Steve Hamrick.ᅠ Entombment was in West Virginia Memorial Gardens Mausoleum at Calvin.
