As you plan your vacation to Snowshoe Mountain Resort, there are several places along the way that my pique your interest.
In Durbin, stop by Station 2 restaurant, a firefighter-themed eatery that offers a menu of breakfast, lunch and dinner selections. From eggs and bacon, to burgers and fries, Station 2 will fill your belly.
Curious as to why your cell phone wonメt work the moment you cross the county line? Go to the National Radio Astronomy Observatory in Green Bank, and learn about the National Radio Quiet Zone and all the radio telescopes. The tour includes a film, demonstrations and a bus tour of the facility. Rates for the tour are: Adults, $6; seniors, $5; children seven-12 years of age, $3.50; children six and under, free. Pocahontas County residents receive a $1 discount.
The NRAO Science Center has the Starlight Cafe, the Galaxy Gift Shop and a hands-on exhibit hall. Winter hours are Thursday through Monday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. with tours taking place at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
In the mood for something handcrafted? Stop by the Pocahontas County Artisans Co-op in Green Bank, and the 4th Avenue Gallery in Marlinton, for a vast array of locally made crafts and art. Jewelry, quilts, photography, watercolor and ceramics are just a few of the items offered at the sister galleries.
To fuel up on the perfect blend of coffee, head to Dirt Bean, in downtown Marlinton, for coffees, teas, smoothies, baked goods and a menu of healthy breakfast and lunch items.
Sharpメs Country Store in Slaty Fork is a blast from the past. Opening in 1884, the store is the oldest in the county. With display cases full of historic items, the store is a great place to get lost in the past.
Coming through Hillsboro? Youメll have to stop at the Pretty Penny. This restaurant has a great atmosphere, live music, and local art on display and for sale. The menu offers a wide selection of locally grown foods for lunch and dinner.
