A Marlinton man was taken into custody Tuesday after an altercation in his Brownsburg home led to the shooting death of his brother

About 2 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, the Pocahontas County Sheriffs Department and West Virginia State Police responded to a report of a shooting at a residence on Brownsburg Road. When officers arrived at a small red cabin about 100 yards off the road, they discovered the body of Danny Boggs, 51, dead from a shotgun blast. The officers arrested Johnny Boggs, the victim's older brother, as a suspect in the slaying, without incident at the scene.

Danny Boggs was shot in the chest, Prosecuting Attorney Donna Meadows Price said Wednesday.

Sheriff David Jonese said his office was handling the investigation, with assistance from the State Police.

As crime scene investigators collected evidence, the Sheriff said he and Major David Walton would be interviewing witnesses Tuesday afternoon,ᅠ including the suspect and several neighbors. Sheriff Jonese said the victim and the suspect had been arguing before the shooting, but the cause of the altercation was unknown.

"I believe they were under the influence of something," Price said. The prosecutor would not speculate whether or not the substance was alcohol.

John Boggs, 60, is charged with murder in the first degree. He is currently lodged in the Tygarts Valley Regional Jail without bond.
