Durbin remains incorporated

After nearly an hour of discussion, the Pocahontas County Commission voted against the unincorporation of the town of Durbin at the commission's meeting Tuesday evening.

A petition was filed for the dissolution of the town by resident Kenneth Lehman, a former councilmember. Lehman circulated the petition after the town election resulted in only 18 voters.

Although both sides of the argument had support, commissioners David Fleming and Jamie Walker voted to allow Durbin to continue as an incorporated town. Commissioner Martin Saffer recused himself from the hearing because he is on retainer as the town's attorney.

Full coverage of the hearing will be available in The Pocahontas Times next week.
