Candidate filing period ends
37 local residents on ballot
Pocahontas County's ballot may look like a game of musical chairs to long-time political observers, as potential incumbents are seeking other offices.
Assessor Dolan Irvine is running for county commission; county commissioner Martin Saffer has filed for prosecuting attorney; and board of education member Leslie Cain resigned her post last week to run for assessor.
No one gets a free ride to office after the Primary Election in May except the winner of the prosecuting attorney's race, which has three Democrats-incumbent Donna Meadows Price, Robert "Bob" Martin and Saffer. No Republican filed for that office.
