Northern Pocahontas Wellness Center applies for VISTA

With a site selected for the new Northern Pocahontas Wellness Center in Green Bank, the committee is now applying for a VISTA volunteer to assist with grant writing and fundraising for the center. The committee discussed the application and approved to submit it for consideration.

Included in the assignment description is:

ユ Community outreach and education

ユ Becoming sustainable financially

ユ Strengthen social capital

If the application is approved, the position will be filled in April and the VISTA will begin working in May.

The committee decided that if the application is not approved, it will apply again for a VISTA that will begin work in July.

ユᅠRachel Taylor said she gave a presentation at a board of education meeting and asked permission to use the Annex at Green Bank Elementary-Middle School as a temporary center. She said superintendent C.C. Lester and the board want more information on the specifics of when the center will be open and who the volunteers will be.

Lisa Wayne said there are a lot of things that need to be moved from the Annex before equipment can be moved in. Once the building is ready for equipment, the committee will have a better idea of hours and volunteers.

ユ Sue Ann Heatherly mentioned the National Radio Astronomy Observatoryメs Space Race Rumpus, which is a three-day cycling event, June 15-17. All proceeds from the event will go to the wellness center.
