The Pocahontas County Artisan's Co-op recently held a grand opening for its gallery at Slatyfork Farm.

“This is a satellite gallery for the Pocahontas County Artisan's co-op. It'll be here through ski season, then we'll move it on the Cass, so it's like a traveling gallery,” said Bet Curtis, member of the co-op and owner of the building that houses the gallery. “These are all area artists and almost every artist is represented here, which is just wonderful. Appalachian artistry at it's best. I'm so excited and proud of it.”

A wide variety of mediums are showcased in the gallery, photography prints, wooden cutting boards, canvas paintings and painted slates, handwoven baskets, handmade brooms and quilts, ironwork and furniture. The gallery also sells local teas, maple syrup and homemade soaps.

Curtis said there's no real theme to the gallery.

“It's just a whole lot of really talented artists and artisans whose work is represented here.”

The gallery is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sundays and Monday holidays.
