Durbin Magistrate’s office to close
The Bank of Durbin opened for business in 1905 and served the people of the upper end of Pocahontas County until the 1930s when it merged with the Bank of Marlinton.
The Durbin Magistrate’s office has been in that old bank building since 1977, but as 2012 comes to a close, so, too, will the doors of that office.
The services which have been provided to the people of that area will merge, once again. This time with the Marlinton Magistrate’s Office.
The county’s lease is up at the end of December, said Pocahontas County magistrate Janet Kershner-Vanover, but due to the busyness of this time of year, the furniture and contents of the office have, as yet, not been moved to Marlinton.
Judy Matheny, of Durbin, has served as magistrate clerk for the past 29 years, and she will retire at the end of this year.
