Grand jury indicts 11

The Pocahontas County Grand Jury indicted 11 people Tuesday on charges ranging from domestic battery to third offense driving under the influence, according to a media release from Prosecuting Attorney Donna L. Price. All offenses are felonies unless otherwise noted.

John D. Brewer, 46, of Bartow, one count failure to register as a sex offender.

Travis D. Brown, 28, of Arbovale, one count domestic battery, third offense.

William L. Cassell, 50, of Buckeye, one count wanton endangerment; one count misdemeanor domestic battery; one count misdemeanor domestic assault.

Phillip C. Dean, Jr., 38, of Marlinton, one count misdemeanor contributing to the delinquency of a minor; one count child abuse resulting in injury.

Julia A. Hale, 39, of Frank, one count driving under the influence, third offense.

Carla L. Johnson, 25, of Hillsboro, one count delivery of a Schedule II controlled substance.

Herbert McClure, 60, of Marlinton, one count misdemeanor driving revoked for DUI; one count driving under the influence, third offense.

Earlin Puffenberger, 58, of Marlinton, one count failure to register as a sex offender.

Greg C. Sharp, 26, of Cass, one count fleeing while driving under the influence; one count misdemeanor driving under the influence.

Rodney K. Swearingen, II, 29, of Hillsboro, one count driving under the influence, third offense; one count misdemeanor driving revoked for DUI; one count misdemeanor possession of less than 15 grams of marijuana; one count misdemeanor attempt to flee in vehicle from law enforcement.

George B. Sewell, 29, of Marlinton, one count grand larceny; one count transfer of stolen goods.


Indictments are not proof of guilt, but are merely accusations.

Arraignments will be held in front of Judge James Rowe Thursday at 9 a.m. And in front of Judge Joseph Pomponio Wednesday, April 13, at 9:30 a.m.
