Local youth participate in 4-H and FFA?Ham, Bacon Egg Show and Sale

Thirty-six Pocahontas County 4-H and FFA members showcased their many hours of hard work as they exhibited and sold their project hams, bacons and eggs at the annual sale at Mitchell Chevrolet on Saturday, March 13. Members of the two youth organizations kept the auctioneers busy selling 27 hams, 27 bacons and 15 dozen eggs.

The Grand Champion Ham was exhibited by Katie Rose and weighed 24.58 pounds. The ham was purchased by Robin Mutscheller for $786.56. The Reserve Champion Ham shown by Cade Walker, weighing 23.96 pounds, was bought by Pendleton Community Bank for $718.80. Dalton Walker exhibited the Grand Champion Bacon which weighed 6.16 pounds and was purchased by Snowshoe Mountain Resort for $597.52.ᅠ The Reserve Champion Bacon, weighing 5.92 pounds, was exhibited by Chelsea Walkerᅠ and sold for $310.80 to J. L. Clifton. The Grand Champion Eggs, exhibited by Emalee Arbogast, sold for $475 to Martin Saffer. The Reserve Champion Eggs, shown by Trevor Jordan, were purchased by Jamie Friel Hill for $440.

In addition to the Grand and Reserve Champions, bidders attending the auction had a chance to buy eight Prime hams, 10 Choice hams, seven Good hams, seven Prime bacons, nine Choice bacons, nine Good bacons, four dozen Grade AA eggs, and five dozen Grade A eggs and four dozen Grade B eggs shown by 4-H and FFA members. Members selling these products included Shane Alderman, Bethany Arbogast, Emalee Arbogast, Kayleigh Arbogast, Matthew Arbogast, Katelynn Beverage, Steven Casto, Austin Ervine, Greg Ervine, Sydney Hall, Jessalyn Hamilton, David Jordan, Mark Jordan, Tessa Jordan, Trevor Jordan, Chelsey Lee, James McComb, Patrick McComb, Rachel McComb, Clair Mosesso, JJ Riley, Amy Rose, Katie Rose, Devin Rose, Sidney Rose, Clayton Shinaberry, Dillon Shinaberry, Cade Walker, Chelsea Walker, Dalton Walker, Jesse Walker, Samantha Walton, Trey Walton, Charles Wilfong II, Olivia Workman and Wyatt Workman.

There was excellent support from businesses in and out of the county, creating a sale volume of $18,302.44. City National Bank donated $500 to be divided equally among all participants.
