Sheriff's Department Accident Reports
The following accident reports were filed in the Pocahontas County Sheriff's Department between February 2 and April 6, 2010:
February 8: Birdie J. Kline, of Green Bank was driving a 1997 Ford south on Route 28 in Green Bank when he stopped his vehicle and started backing across the northbound lane to park. As he was backing up, Kline's vehicle was struck on theᅠ side by a 2007 Mercedes SUV operated by Daniel Arganidona, of Washington, D.C. Kline received a warning for improper turning. No injuries reported. Investigated by Captain Troy McCoy.
February 15: Gregory D. Schneider, of Fuquay Varina, North Carolina, was traveling east on Route 39 in a 1999 Chrysler van, in snowy conditions, when he slid across the eastbound lane and struck the guardrail. Driving too fast for conditions was listed as a contributing factor but no citation issued. No injuries reported. Investigated by Captain Troy McCoy.
February 15: Ronald J. Sapp, of Jacksonville, Florida, was traveling north on Route 219 in a 2006 Kia Sedona, coming down Droop Mountain, when he lost control, slid off the snow-covered road across a parking area and ran into a snow pile and overturned. Driving too fast for conditions was listed as a contributing factor. No citation and no injuries reported. Investigated by Captain Troy McCoy.
February 28: Brian C. Dean, of Hillsboro, was traveling east on Lobelia Road in snowy conditions in a 1998 Nissan Frontier when he struck three cows in the roadway. The driver said he could not swerve to avoid the animals due to slick road conditions. The cows had to be put down. No citation. Investigated by Deputy C.M. Cole.
March 25: Richard Colvin, of Clarksburg, was traveling south on Route 219 in rainy conditions in a 2004 Buick when he rounded a curve and saw three deer standing in the road. He swerved to avoid the deer, ran off the road, struck a directional arrow sign and came to rest in a ditch. No injuries reported and no citation. Investigated by Deputy C.M. Cole.
April 3: Marvin D. Brock, of Hillsboro, was driving east on Lobelia Road in a 2006 Chevrolet Impala when he reached into his back pocket to get a tissue. Brock ran off the road, struck a culvert and knocked down three fence posts. No injuries reported and no citation. Investigated by Deputy C.M. Cole.
CORRECTION: In a previous accident report, it was reported that Patricia M. Skidmore received a citation for no/expired registration. Skidmore received a warning but no citation. In the same accident, Timothy S. Hoover was cited for failure to maintain control.
