Mon Power representatives in Marlinton said Wednesday that the cause of Tuesday's power outage was a hickory tree that fell over sub-transmission lines near Stony Creek. Due to the remote location of the downed line, power company workers had to walk in to locate the source of the problem.

Approximately 4,000 customers in the Marlinton, Snowshoe, Dunmore, Frost and Slaty Fork areas lost power for about four-and-a-half hours due to the incident.
