Why did you join the Honor Corps?

Itメs a privilege and an honor to serve the veterans of Pocahontas County. It means so much to the families.

Why did you join the National Guard?

I joined when I was in high school. A friend of mine talked me into it. We took the test together and he got thrown out because they found something wrong with him medically. So, I ended up joining alone.

What were your duties?

I was a heavy equipment operator. Bulldozers, graders, anything needed for combat support.

What advice do you have for new recruits?

If you donメt have plans for college, you might consider joining the service. It will place you in a field, and you can learn a trade to take with you later in life. Plus, you get the GI Bill which can assist with college if you do decide to go back to school.
