Rotary golf tourney nets $2,300 for scholarship funds
The Marlinton Rotary Club sponsored a benefit golf tournament at Pocahontas Country Club on August 21 that raised $2,300 for the Beulah Moore and Marlinton Rotary college scholarships. Ten teams waited out rainy weather and enjoyed an excellent afternoon of golf. Two teams tied for the best score and a handicap hole was used to determine the winner. In the photo, the winning team of Scott Carpenter, Billy Kaiser, Tony Smith and John Kershnier, of Virginia with country club manager Bob Keller. The second place team, sponsored by Sheets GMC, consisted of James Carpenter, Bill Carpenter, Eli Carpenter, Chad Baldwin and Jeremy Klocker. Other team sponsors included Pendleton Community Bank, City National Bank, Dairy Queen, Burn Motor Freight, Greenbrier Investments, First Citizens Bank and Maxine Harper. Mitchell Chevrolet provided a 2011 Chevrolet Cruze as a prize for a hole-in-one on the tenth hole, but there was no winner.
