Prescription drug town hall meeting
Circuit Court Judge James Row speaks during a town hall meeting to discuss prescription drug abuse prevention on September 1 at the Pocahontas County Opera House. Other speakers, seated at the table, left to right: State Delegate Denise Campbell, State Senator Walt Helmick, Marcie Vaughan, with Seneca Health Services and Dr. Michael O'Neil, with the West Virginia Controlled Substances Advisory Board. Seated behind Judge Rowe is the event host, Marilyn Norris, of the Pocahontas County Prevention Coalition Coalition. The Prevention Coalition, established in 2006, presented the town hall meeting. According to the coalition, more than 70-percent of prescription drug abusers obtain their drugs from family and friends. More than 90-percent of fatal overdoses in 2006 involved prescription drugs.
