Enlisted: 1979
Years of Active Service: 1979-2000
Branch: Navy
Why did you join the Honor Corps?
To pay respect to those who have gone before me and for their families.
Why did you join the Navy?
It was the best option I had from my point of view. I thought I had better options for travel and education than I did in my little hometown.
What were your duties in the Navy?
I was an aviation electrician and senior chief. I worked on any electronics like flight controls and navigation systems. I was stationed at Norfolk, Virginia, for 18 years and three years with the Blue Angels in Pensacola, Florida. I was part of the maintenance crew for the Blue Angels. With them, everyone gets a chance to fly before they leave, so I did get my ride.
What advice do you have for new recruits?
The service has an unlimited amount of opportunities for education and travel. I would tell them to explore their options and make sure they get what they want out of the service.
