Countyメs first Barn Quilt square installed
The Pocahontas County Barn Quilt trail has officially launched with the installation of the Bear Paw square at the Pocahontas County Arts Council center in Green Bank.
The Arts Council is working in conjunction with the Pocahontas County Convention and Visitors Bureau to promote and install a dozen squares over the county.
モThe theme is the sesquicentennial, as well as West Virginia, so they wanted quilts that would relate to that period, 150 years ago,ヤ Kay Gillispie said.
After the 12 patterns were selected by the community, the Arts Council purchased materials to begin the process of creating squares.
Gillispie, with the help of fellow artists, painted two squares ヨᅠthe Bear Paw square and another that is for sale for $400.
Although only 12 squares will be a part of the official quilt trail, Gillispie said other landowners and businesses can purchase their own squares to display.
モWe plan on doing more to sell,ヤ she said. モWeメre thinking about making different sizes other than the eight-by-eight that is required for the trail.ヤ
Pocahontas is the fourth county in West Virginia to join the National Barn Quilt Trail. Quilt squares may be seen in Monroe, Roane and Mason counties.
