Accident Reports

August 17: Charles Sammons, 64, of Elkview, was traveling north on Route 219 near Buckeye on a 2007 Harley Davidson when he hit oil on the roadway and slid off the road. Sheriff’s Deputy B.L. Kelly investigated. No citations were issued.

August 18: Charles May, 54, of Belle, was traveling too fast on Snowshoe Drive on a 2007 Harley Davidson, when he laid the motorcycle down because he couldn’t make a turn. Deputy B.A. Shinaberry investigated. No citations were issued.

August 24: Jaclyn Nicole Hatfield-Lycans, 33, of Summersville, was traveling south on Route 219 on a 2006 Suzuki GSX-R750 when she hit a rut in a bridge under construction and was thrown from the motorcycle. Deputy. B.L. Kelly investigated. No citations were issued and injuries were not reported.

September 7: Patricia Anne Sharp, 60, of Marlinton, was traveling down Main Street in a 2005 Buick LeSabre when she lost control due to an apparent unknown medical condition. She struck the bridge railing on the south side of Route 39, continued traveling east running off the east roadway onto the sidewalk, struck the handrails, a flower planter, two old meter posts and a street light. Captain T.A. McCoy investigated. No citations were issued.

September 7: James H. Leslie Jr., 48, of Thorndale, ran off the road near Slaty Fork on a 2009 Kawasaki Vulcan. He hit the guardrail and fell over. Kevin M. Beaty, 56, of Enola, traveling on a 2003 Triumph, struck Leslie’s motorcycle where it landed. Deputy B.A. Shinaberry investigated.

September 8: Rojas Candelario Rufino, 54, of Durbin, was traveling in reverse in the northbound lane in Durbin in a 1992 Chevrolet Sport Van when he struck Matthew Edward Hipes, 30, of Durbin, in a 1995 Subaru SI-4. Deputy B.E. Nelson investigated. Rufino was issued a citation for failure to maintain control.

September 10: Everett M. Murphy, Jr., 83, of Green Bank, was traveling on Wesley Chapel Road in a 2002 Oldsmobile Bravada when he ran off the south edge of the roadway and over the embankment, striking a tree and a fence. Approximately 30 feet of fence was damaged. Captain T.A. McCoy investigated. No citations were issued.

September 19: Christopher Thomas Watson, 36, of Marlinton, was traveling in a 2003 Oldsmobile Alero when he swerved to miss a truck and a deer. He lost control, struck a tree and ended up in Knapps Creek. Sergeant Christopher Cole investigated. Watson was issued a citation for no proof of insurance.

September 29: Charles William Snyder, 70, of Cass, was traveling south on Route 92 in Green Bank in a 2007 Chevrolet Colorado. He attempted to pass Curtis Burton Weese, 74, of Princeton, who was driving a 2007 Honda CI-V. As Snyder entered the left lane to pass, Weese attempted to turn left and the vehicles collided. Deputy B.E. Nelson investigated. Snyder was issued a citation for improper/unsafe passing.
