Wellness committee discusses partnership

Members of the Northern Pocahontas Community Wellness committee met October 10 to discuss partnerships and fundraising for the facility.

At the previous meeting, the committee suggested becoming a branch of Pocahontas County Parks and Recreation instead of being an independent 501(c)3 on its own. Lauren Bennett, director of Parks and Rec, said she would take the idea to the Parks and Rec board to get its response.

Bennett contacted Sue Anne Heatherly, who said the Parks and Rec board wants to meet with representatives from the committee to discuss the issue before making a decision.

Heatherly said the biggest concern is liability and insurance, which will cost $500 a year to add NPCW to the Parks and Rec insurance, while it could cost up to $3,000 a year for a new policy.

The next Parks and Rec board meeting is November 13.

Heatherly also reported that the Turkey Trot 5K/10K will be held November 24 at the NRAO. The event benefits Pocahontas County High School track teams.

The committee approved donating $100 to be a sponsor of the event. The NPCW logo will be included on the back of T-shirts given to participants.

John and Alesia Wayne shared examples of logos designed by Caroline McKean. The committee liked all the logos and selected one for shirts, one for letterheads and another one for signs.
