Students explore other cultures at Foreign Language Festival
The halls of Pocahontas County High School were alive with sights and aromas of Spanish speaking countries during the Foreign Language Festival May 20.
Students from Green Bank Elementary-Middle School, Marlinton Middle School and PCHS, embraced "muy caliente" flavors for the cooking contest and displayed their acting and dancing chops during the performances.
Sections of the festival included: the recitation contest with 57 students participating; the poster contest, 123 participants; cooking contest, 118 participants; original poem recitation, nine participants; performances, 80 participants.
Fifteen students were inducted into the Spanish Honor Society, Cervantes Chapter. Ellie Bell, Chloe Bland, James Boothe, Shonda Carr, Rachel Cain, Danielle Gooding, Nathan Hamons, Seth Morgan, Danielle Mothes, Kimberly Pollard, Joseph Rose, Sam Rose, Aaron Sharp, Chelsea Walker, Erin White and Karen Wilfong were welcomed into the society by current members.
The two remaining French Honor Society members, Toni Dilley and Amanda Nottingham, recited a poem.
Kiy Tywoniw designed the cover of the festival's program.
