BOE receives priority list for the county's CEFP

Alice Irvine, Associate Superintendent for Operations and Treasurer, shared the priority list for projects included in the 2010-2020 Comprehensive Education Facilities Plan (CEFP) drafted by Williamson Shriver Architects Inc. with board members at the meeting Monday night.

The list is a compilation of upgrades and additions for the five county schools. Irvine explained that the order of the projects can be changed at any time, and the firm chose the order according to needs mentioned at CEFP meetings earlier this year.

Board members asked Irvine to provide a copy of the list to members of the CEFP committee as well as the principals and teachers before sending their approval to the architectural firm.
Superintendent Dr. J. Patrick Law presented a plaque of appreciation to Snowshoe Mountain Resort COO Bill Rock for the years of service and support Snowshoe has given to the school system.

"One of the real blessings to this community for many years now and particularly to our students, has been our association with Snowshoe," Law said.

"We love our relationship with the board and look forward to doing even more," Rock said, in appreciation of the recognition.

Law also had a plaque for Robin Mutscheller for her assistance in maintaining the beauty of the Greenbrier River Trail behind the board office. Mutscheller's husband, John, accepted the plaque on her behalf.

Board member Ruth Taylor informed board members that she attended a meeting with first lady Gayle Manchin, who spoke about utilizing fresh and organic foods in the school system. She said Manchin has contacted First Lady Michelle Obama and Food Revolution's Jamie Oliver to expand Oliver's program to all parts of West Virginia.

Taylor said she hopes Pocahontas County Schools can begin using farm fresh foods and establish student gardens at the schools to educate students on the importance of healthy eating.
