BOE holds short meeting, discusses business, events

Personnel issues are majority of agenda

The board of education met briefly Monday night and discussed upcoming events.

Coordinator of Student Services and Special Education Diane Delfino informed board members that Jennifer Caradine, an associate with Dinsmore and Shohl LLP, is coming to a principals meeting January 25 to discuss policy 2419. The policy is titled Regulations for the Education of Students with Exceptionalities.

Student representative Nathan Hamons reported that students at Pocahontas County High School are preparing for finals which, weather permitting, will be this week. The second semester will begin once finals are completed.

In financial management, the board approved:

ユ Payment of vendor listing of claims in the amount of $28,930.35.

ユ Payment of vendor listing of claims in the amount of $80,345.13.

ユ Bank Reconciliation, Revenue and Expenditures Summary, Budget Supplements, Budget Transfers and Projects Summary.

In personnel management, the board approved:

ユ Employment of Lucy M. Rittenhouse as academic interventionist at Green Bank Elementary-Middle School for 15 hours per week, as needed, at $20 per hour not to exceed $4,500, effective January 12 through April 22, 2011.

ユ Resignation of Anna S. Hayes, due to retirement, as special education classroom/bus aide/paraprofessional at Green Bank Elementary-Middle School, effective June 30, 2011.

ユ Employment of Sharla G. Sherman as academic interventionist at Hillsboro Elementary School, retroactive to December 6, 2010 through April 22, 2011, for three hours per day at $20 per hour, not to exceed $1,760.

ユ Employment of Lora S. Miller as cook for the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program at Marlinton Elementary School, retroactive to October 1, 2010, for the remainder of the 2010-2011 school year at $12 per hour, as needed.

ユ Employment of Linda S. Beverage and Cammy J. Kesterson as Co-EDGE Site Coordinators at Pocahontas County High School, effective for the 2010-2011 school year at a stipend of $420 for each individual.

ユ Resignation of Thomas E. Plumley as golf coach at Pocahontas County High school, retroactive to December 15, 2010.

ユ Out-of-field authorization of Cynthia Shreve in special education (mental retardation/behavior disorder/specific learning disabilities), effective for the remainder of the 2010-2011 school year.

ユ Resignation of Charles A. Wilfong as Supervisor of Maintenance, Asbestos Management, Electrician II, General Maintenance, Heating and Air Conditioning Mechanic II, Painter and Plumber II for Pocahontas County Schools, effective at the end of the day on January 11, 2011.

ユ Supplement for Mary Sue Burns, $665, for national certification for science teacher, retroactive to November 19, 2010 through June 10, 2011, ($1,000 for each year thereafter) and remaining in effect until such time as specified in WV Code 18A-4-2b.

In miscellaneous management, the board approved:

ユ Travel requests for January 10, 2011.

ユ Contract with Frontier to install an intercom/bell system in Hillsboro Elementary school at a cost not to exceed $21,315.14.
