Two soldiers with the West Virginia National Guard Counter-Drug unit arrived at Hillsboro Elementary School in an OH-58 helicopter on May 11. Pilot Chief Warrant Officer Larry Helmick and Staff Sergeant Joseph Samples taught safety topics including stranger danger, bullying, dare, peer pressure and home alone safety. During the visit, students had the opportunity to sit in the helicopter and take the controls. In the photo, above, Helmick and Lieutenant Colonel Jeff Price, of the Joint Interagency Training and Education Center, pose for a photo with first and second graders.
