School bus damaged at bus garage
Associate Superintendent for Operations and Treasurer Alice Irvine informed the board of education Monday night that a school bus received extensive damage after someone collided with the parked bus near Hillsboro Elementary School.
Irvine said the bus garage at HES does not have a camera, so the motorist was not caught in the act, but the incident is being investigated by the Sheriffメs Department. The bus suffered damage to the door and step well.

ユ Superintendent C.C. Lester reported an upcoming staff picnic at Pocahontas County High School Friday, June 10, at 11:30 a.m. Board president Kenneth Vance suggested running buses from Green Bank, Marlinton and Hillsboro for the employees to ride instead of driving individually.
Lester added that the principalメs academy is August 1 and 2 at Mountain Quest. Irvine said the bus drivers luncheon will be June 9 at 11 a.m. at Ryderメs Restaurant.
In financial management, the board approved the following:
ユ Payment of vendor listing of claims in the amount of $8,568.89.
ユ Payment of vendor listing of claims in the amount of $65,321.22
In personnel management, the board approved the following:
ユ Employment of Sandra K. Perdue as custodian II, extra summer help, at Green Bank Elementary-Middle School, effective July 5 through August 2, as needed, for a total of fifteen days, not to exceed 120 hours.
ユ Creation of position itinerant teacher of special education/autism, half-time, for Pocahontas County Schools, assignment Hillsboro Elementary School, effective for the 2011-2012 school year. Term of employment is 200 one-half days.
ユ Creation of position orientation and mobility services for Pocahontas County Schools, at a rate of $80 per hour, not to exceed $14,000, effective July 12, 2011, through June 30, 2012.
In miscellaneous management, the board approved the following:
ユ Travel requests for June 6.
ユ Contract between the Pocahontas County Board of Education and JoAnne Persinger to attend the Summer Math Institute, June 13-17, at a rate of $150 per day for a total of $750.
ユ Contract between the Pocahontas County Board of Education and Jo Anne Persinger as math consultant for 30 days at $350 per day, not to exceed $10,500, effective September 2011 to January 2012.
ユContract between the Pocahontas County Board of Education and Career Solutions to provide community-based vocational education/school-to-work transitioning services and functional vocational evaluations/assessments for students with disabilities at a rate of $30 per hour not to exceed $20,000, effective August 1, 2011 to May 30, 2012.
