At a special meeting Monday night, the board of education reviewed applications from seven candidates for the board seat left vacant by Leslie Cain, who resigned at the January 23 meeting.

ﾓFour of those people were members that have filed for the board of education seats, and we felt that we couldnﾒt select one of them over the other, so we went on to the other candidates,ﾔ board president Kenneth Vance said. ﾓWe have selected Martha Giddings to fill Leslieﾒs unexpired term.ﾔ

Giddings, a resident of Snowshoe, will hold the seat until July 1, when the elected officials take office.

In personnel management, the board approved the following:

ﾕ Medical leave of absence of a Green Bank Elementary-Middle School employee, effective after the exhaustion of all personal leave and leave donation days, for 12 months, or until a doctorﾒs release is obtained, whichever comes first.

ﾕ Permission to Superintendent of Schools to employe teachers of homebound/hospitalized students, as he deems necessary for the remainder of the 2011-2012 school year.

ﾕ Abolishment of position Coordinator of Food Services/Student Support Services, at the state basic rate of pay based on degree and experience, effective Februray 15.

ﾕ Creation of position Coordinator of Food Services/Technology Integration Specialist, at the state basic rate of pay based on degree and experience, effective date and term of employment to be determined.

The next board meeting will be February 13, at 7 p.m. in the board of education conference room.
