Durbin fills vacant council seat

After reviewing letters from three residents who expressed interest in filling the council seat left vacant by Veronica Lane, Durbin council voted Monday for former Durbin mayor Paula Dilley to be the new councilmember.

In other action:

ユ Council approved to amend the townメs current flood plain ordinance and to adopt the FEMA flood plain ordinance following the first reading.

ユ No applications were received for the coordinatorメs position for Durbin Days Heritage Festival. Council voted to advertise the position again, adding that it will be a paid position. The applications need to be in to town hall by February 18.

ユ Council voted to have a meeting February 9 at 6 p.m. to review engineer applications for the sewage project. They will narrow the applications to three and set a date for interviews.

ユ Mayor Donald Peck reported that during a sewage break near the Bartow-Frank-Durbin Fire Department, it was discovered that kerosene was leaking into the line. The town contacted the DEP (Department of Environmental Protection) and found the source of the leak.

ユ Peck asked for a moment of silence in honor of councilmember Emma Grace Nottinghamメs husband Ellis, who recently passed away.
