Durbin Council reschedules meeting

Only two members of Durbin Town Council were in attendance at the regularly scheduled meeting Monday night. Council and the mayor decided to reschedule the meeting for Thursday, August 12.

This is the third meeting in four months that has been rescheduled due to lack of attendance by councilmembers.

Although a quorum wasn't present, attendee Jason Bauserman asked permission to speak to council.

Bauserman was commissioned to rebuild the porch on the town building and found supplies for a fraction of the normal cost at World Vision in Philippi. He explained that the issue was time sensitive because the materials are sold on a first-come, first-served basis.

He said he could purchase Hardie Plank siding for $2.50 per piece, a material which usually costs around $9 per piece.

With such a good deal on the table, the mayor asked town treasurer Veronica Lane to call councilmember Emma Grace Nottinghamᅠ for a vote. Nottingham was unable to attend the meeting due to illness.

With her vote, the council approved Bauserman's request to purchase the materials for the renovations.

Councilmembers John Osborne and Don Jennings were in attendance.

No other action was taken.
