"Miracle quilt" for Baxter Church Harvest Day
Kestra Pritchard, of Dunmore, left, and Astrid Fait, of Germany, display a quilt made by Sharon Hively, of Dunmore, to be auctioned during the 151st annual Baxter Church Harvest Day celebration on September 25. This is the 75th year a quilt has been made for Harvest Day - a tradition begun by Grannie Ada Grimes. At one time, three generations of the Grimes family made squares for the quilt.ᅠ This year, Pritchard was unable to find enough volunteers, due to illnesses and infirmities, so the community quilt was cancelled. But, on September 13, Hively surprised Pritchard with this beautiful handmade quilt. On Harvest Day, members of Baxter Church invite the public to a church supper at noon and an auction of various handmade items at the Dunmore Community Center at 1:30 p.m. For more information, call Pritchard at 304-456-4317.
