Durbin council approves stream gauging station move

James Scott, of the United States Geological Survey, approached Durbin council at its meeting May 10 with a request to move the gauging station onto town property.

Scott explained that the station has suffered transmission problems for the past five years and his office hasnメt received data on a regular basis. He asked council for permission to attach the transmitter to the side of the building near the lagoon in hopes the data will be transferred more frequently.

The stream gauging station monitors the stage of the river and whether there is a need for a warning to be issued about high water or a drought. Council gave Scott permission to move the transmitter but could not vote on the matter because it was not on the agenda. The issue will be on the next meeting agenda and approved retroactively.
